Re: Equipped and unequipped
A good story to go with this, one of the last times i lifted in a "big gym", around 2004, I remember hearing about a 181 lb lifter who benched 463. I wasn't powerlifting then, last competed in 1995 with an Inzer blast shirt, that maybe added 30 lbs. I had a "gym bench" of about 405 at that time, in a t-shirt but no pause. I was walking by the bench and the 181 lb, 463 bencher asked me to give him a lift off, he had 275 on there. I said sure, lifted it off, and walked away. Surely 275 for a 463 bencher is a warm up, right? This guy struggled through 5-6 reps, puts the bar back and jumps up hopping mad! "Dammit man don't just throw the bar on me and walk away!" I said I am sorry, I just thought it was a warm up for you, I heard you benched 463. He sputters, "that's with a shirt and wraps!" I said sorry again, but I have never benched 463, but I have also never struggled with 275 either! That made me wonder alot about the big equipped benches from then on.
