Perry, I think you are being a bit harsh with your criticism, to be honest. And, if I might be allowed to say so, your own limerick suffers from a minor fault itself. That is to say, "scan" is here better treated as a transitive verb otherwise, along with an avoidable vagueness in the line, you miss a vital beat. Perhaps I might be allowed to suggest this improvement, though I should point out that it is by way of a technical improvement only; I don’t share your rather unkind view of Mark’s work.
Wrote limericks into the night
But his failure to scan 'em
Caused posters to pan 'em
As metromaniacal shite
