Hey everyone
Ive just read with great interest all the posts and the review of Sophie's and particularly of the inimitable woman that is Maureen.
I worked for the lovely Mr + Mrs Hagger a couple of summers ago, and id like to share my experiences if u'd care to read on
When i worked for them, they were running a small tearooms in exmouth. (i left before they moved to Sophies) Throughout my time there, i was paid £2.85 an hour to work hard, be nice and put up with the pair of them whilst they stood about talking, and occasionally verbally abusing their waitresses. Whilst Mr Hagger was somewhat in the background demanding cups of tea at various intervals, Maureen preferred the more "hands on" approach, literally. I kid you not, on one, maybe two occasions she was physically violent towards me. Nothing major, but not the sort of thing i was being paid to take right? I was very uncomfortable serving roast dinners to decent paying customers, due to Maureen's gravy recycling policy. Trust me, you dont want to know...
Believe me, i have no axe to grind with them anymore, and this isnt just some cheap slagging session, i just felt that after Maureen's hilarious self-publicity, the other side of the story should be told.
oh, and incidentally, Sophie's is named after their dog, which was a nice touch i thought....
thanks for reading
