Many experiences in restaurants can be unsatisfactory and it isn't alway's the fault of the restaurant. Funniest one I had was when I took some friends to a Spanish place in Hove. 'Hove is so quiet,' I said, 'That's why I like it.' At this point the door burst open and a giant with an acromegalic face strode into the room. One of the diners, with a face like a potato, leapt up in apprehension. 'I'm gonna DO you!' growled the giant. 'Oh no, don't Terry, it's not worth it,' screeched a girl with enormous hair. A flurry of waiters ensued and, after a bit of rolling-up-of-sleeves and table-circling, the boys in blue arrived and took away the party-pooper. Spoiled things a bit and now my friends doubt all my assertions about Hove - especially my mother-in-law, who was eating fish and chips with me one evening in a nice Hove chippy, when a police car screeched to a stop outside the window and two heavy coppers jumped out and knocked an odd-looking chap to the ground, handcuffing his hands behind him as one kneeled on his back in the old-fashioned way. I assumed he was being arrested for something or other. My mother-in-law didn't think much of it.
