Posted by Linda Brown Later as we were leaving we saw him tucking into his dinner in the corner of the restaurant with a pint of beer in front of him. For all their pretentiousness and snobbery, the food left a lot to be desired as was actually tasteless. At £100 for two people not a cheap evening. We rated all the restaurants we visited and of the 38 this rated 27th. Not to be recommended.

Walking the whole of the South West Coastal Path from Minehead in Somerset to Poole in Dorset (not through the middle but all the way round) a total of 630 miles is a daunting prospect taking six weeks of hard walking to complete. To compensate for the hard graft of the day, my son and I ensured we sampled good food at some amazing restaurants. Rick Stein at Padstow, The Alba at St. Ives, The Wellington Hotel at Boscastle, The Red Lion at Clovelly and many, many more some of which I will review on the restaurant spy. We reached The Mullion Cove Hotel late one afternoon and stopped by to book a table. The Maitre de looked over the top of his glasses and enquired whether perhaps the Bistro section of the hotel was more to our liking. Excuse me!!! I assured him that we intended to be rid of our hiking gear and will dress accordingly for the restaurant. We duly arrived at the appointed time and were relunctantly shown to our table. Both dressed in our evening black. My son's 38th birthday so we really wanted something special. Feta cheese with raspberries for starters!!!! Something new. Not tried that before. Actually was completely ghastly. I went for the lamb and my son a fish course. We both know our wines, my son being more the connoisseur, we still sought the advice of the sommelier, as we were having such different main courses. "oh" he exclaimed, "theres far too much chat about what wine goes with what, just choose what you like" "Excuse me" my son said, "I think it matters a great deal actually". In the end we chose an ok Pinot Noir.
