No one said anything about mastiffs that don't fit the standard? It's also just as easy to point out 29, 30" and yes, 31 and 32" mastiffs in the ring that also look like danes with no bone, head, mass, ect. But that's not what the subject was about, whether we could find a bad mastiff at any size. Harley is now right at 34" at 6years old may 20th and my guess would be 230, maybe 240lbs (I will weigh him soon to find out). And I have done some measuring just to see for myself. His height does come from his body and not his legs, his head size will stack up with any male and put most to shame size wise. He has very decent bone and moves just fine for my liking. I'm not saying he's the best, but I'll say he can hold his own with most in the ring today, even at 6 yrs old. He has what I consider room for improvement like any other mastiff, but I've never heard anyone say he has a dane like look, but instead OMG, what a mastiff! So it can and should be bred for, size with all the rest. If anyone doubts that's what most buyers look for, along with breeder picks, maybe someone can explain to me why the largest of every litter goes first, always as potential show quality attached to him/her???? I have yet to see someone looking for show potential pick the one they think will go around 29" tall, choosing the runt as their pick. Why does anyone think that is???? You know, most of this subject just needs common sense to know what is desired when the word mastiff gets used by those who buy them. Take Care all you mastiff owners.
I have to agree with Dawn and Nancy, breeders IMO should at least breed for the whole package concerning size height ect..
