I hear what your saying on the temperment issues, I really do. But I still say a dog is a dog and all dogs have the potential to bite. No I dont think its the norm for a mastiff to bite right off the bat, but that doesnt mean they wont and dont. And yes I agree with you that that isnt the correct mastiff temperment, and those mastiffs shouldnt be bred. With that being said, I try my best to protect my dogs. If I had a problem dog,(and I do) and perhaps the owners knew this and is why they told the human NOT to pet, what else can she do at that point?? Is it not the fault of the human who has the choice of sticking their hand over that fence ....or NOT??? I feel like they have to take some of this responsiblity in that one too. I dont have a clue who this happened too, but I am sorry for all involved that it has happened. But really, if the person was told NOT too, and did anyway........how is that one not their fault? Yes it owuld have been nice for the mastiff not to bite, but its a dog. So does the mastiff have to pay the price with its life, because this guy couldnt LISTEN to what the owner TRIED to tell him??? That one sure dont seem right to me either........=( Not all mastiffs are perfect, but with the right owners, even the ones with problems can lead a normal happy life, as long as the owners protect them. Very sad I hope it works out for all involved. What you should be getting upset about for SURE are those folks that breed knowingly and willingly, to dogs such as these.........thats REALLY sad too
