Wow, Brenda, I can still feel your anger!! I have always wondered what people are thinking when they do things like that. I think that my dogs would not bite, but who can say with certainty what they would do in the right circunstance. I try to protect them.
ALSO I do think that they are great judges of character. I have seen my most gentle and dependable ones start to growl at a total stranger for no apparent reason. I suspect they sensed something about that person--and I always respect that.
We do need to remember that Mastiffs were historically guard dogs--so guarding their territory is natural to them.
