While I agree that the mastiff temperment should be as gentle and loving as possible, do you not think that the way the dog is introduced to others has any play in it at all??? Again, I dont know the whole story line, but when my dogs are left by themselves, they are left to make their own decisions. When I am there, and esp when they are on leash, they look to me to make those decisions. My Archie is the biggest mush in this world, very gentle boy, BUT.....how do I know how he would react in that same given senerio??? I DONT know. I know how he reacts to folks around him while i am there, and thats how I prefer to leave it, cause he IS a dog, and if he felt threatened in any way, regardless of whether a human thought he should feel threatened , if HE felt threatened , ??? I really just dont know. When one can read a dogs mind, then I would say the problem of biting would be gone. Until I can read my dogs mind, I try my damnest to take care of them.....so they dont have to worry and make those decisions for themselves. How can anyone predict on any given day, what would make their dogs mad enough, or scared enough, to feel the need to protect themselves to the point of a bite???? Not me man not me. Sorry you apparently got into something that sounds heated. Sometimes if a reference hits "close enough to home" without being meant that way, folks take it that way type thing. Hope things cool off soon.....for ALL involved
