I wouldn't leave Maia in a yard where people would be walking by a lot. Only because she is grumpy LOL People think mastiffs are some kind of circus freak because they are so big and people ALWAYS want to touch them, talk about them, come closer...it happens when we are in the car, when we are at the walking path, at the vet - I know this. SO - I wouldn't leave her unattended where people would be wandering past - because I KNOW people would wanna mess with her. IF I was there with her - fine because she obeys (I tell her all the time "If I need your help I'll let you know" - usually after a correction for her being inappropriate...she seems to think the greatest threat to my personal safety are other dogs running loose on the street. :D ) But if she were alone in a situation like that who knows? Would that make her feel threatened? To US we know it isn't but to THEM? Like someone has said - I can't read a dog's mind. I would just avoid that situation, especially if I KNEW that they were grumpy like that.
