A couple of weeks ago a man with over 100 dogs on a school bus heading from Colorado to Alaska broke down in our fair city.
The dogs were in poor condition - under weight, parasites, etc - and living in terrible conditions and the man was arrested and the dogs confiscated. Now we have all the dogs housed in one of the mine hoist houses and a team of volunteers taking care of them.
I have been up there and the conditions are MUCH better than in a tiny bus but still not great. It was so sad I broke into tears when I left. I am volunteering to help the lady who is head coordinator of their care by being her personal assistant. Taking her calls and scheduling voluteers while she shovels and feeds and supervises the helpers. I look at those dogs with an eye toward "which one can I save?" and I can't DO THAT! I'll have 3 dogs and no husband. Plus I'm still a little immune deficient and probably shouldn't have much contact with the poor, filthy things.
Here is my question for you guys - Can you think of some other agencies we could contact to get HELP! Mostly they need money for food, vet care etc. They have contacted Husky Rescue and some other places but doggie people can think of innovative, unique places that haven't been thought of yet. Unconventional avenues.
It is SO sad, ya'll. there is a website somewhere - I'll have to get the link so you can see them. Mothers with tiny puppies that were born after we got them; puppies of ALL ages; old, sweet dogs; mean, growly dogs - every one of them with a sad, sweet face and no real home. It's just killer.
Any ideas let me know but even with no ideas send some sweet, doggy vibes this way.
TIA
