Well Sue had her surgery the 18th of last month. Things could have gone a lot better, but that's our luck. The surgeon cut a vein trying to scape some large intestine off the pelvic bone, (that melted there from her five weeks of radiation). They had a hard time stopping the bleeding and gave her two pints of blood on the table. When they did get it stopped they didn't put her back together as planned, but closed her up instead.
Then while in the hospital they were nice enough to give her MRSA three days later in her wound!!!
That caused us to be there 11 days rather then the 5 or 7 it was supposed to be. They had to open the wound up to drain it, anti's to cure it. Which left me with the job of giving her anti's through her port at home, changing her bag, repacking the open wound 5 days a week (home nurse the other 2days).
One week ago the doctor decided she needed a wound vac (which I asked for before we left the hopital, but got told her wound was to small for that. Now she has it on and seems to be getting lots better with it, hey, what's putting it off for 3 weeks matter????
Now as soon as we get her healed up, she gets to go back for surgery number 2 to get put back together through the same incision as before and have her bag put on her other side, then after healed up again I guess one more to take her bag off, and last but not least then again to have her port taken out.
Now for the good news, the radiation shunk her mass to nothing more then a scare tissue according to her surgeon, (which did get removed) and no cancer cells showed up in any of the 14 lypnodes (spelling?) tested. VERY GOOD!
Our home nurse thinks the wound vac is ready to come off now, so thursday back to the wound doctor to see if he agrees. Sue can't wait to get it off!
And now for my thoughts so far. As for the medical world. I have never run into so many folks that either didn't have a clue what they were doing, or just flat out lazier then hell. I'm so sick of making appointments that never get done on time I could scream (and usually do now).
Let's see, The surgeon wouldn't even talk to me for 3 days after the surgery (because of a few things he said to me after the surgery I disagreed with him on and told him so. The staff at the florida hospital in Orlando now know me really well and wish they didn't! The wound doctors nurse now wishes he had never met me, simply because he lied and bs'ed me one to many times about getting Sue's wound vac ordered like the doctor asked him to do, only took a week to get which should have taken 2 days tops. And he didn't get it done, another nurse did, along with our insurance rep.
I have never got into it with so many folks in a row as I have since day one of the surery to now.My apparent illusions of what the hospital would be like have been shattered. I expected a clean place, not getting told "when they say she can leave, run don't walk out the door"! This place is filthy and the longer she stays, the more likely she will catch something and BOY were they RIGHT!
And last but not least, I really feel sorry for anyone who goes to a hospital and has no one to look out for them during their stay. I don't have time to type how much shit I went through with folks there, how many times and what the reasons were for, but trust me when I say it was like being in the twilight zone there!
Gosh I can hardly wait for round two with those same folks now!
Take Care All and don't get sick, trust me if you do the problems just start when you get to the hospital!
