: Hello Ron,
: Much is being made this year of the 50th
: anniversary of rock and roll (Elvis
: recorded the song "That's All
: Right, Mama" in 1954, which
: unofficially launched the era). Many
: singers who grew up during the 40's and
: 50's probably were first exposed to
: music through their families, parents
: and so forth, who were playing records
: by Sinatra and and other similar
: artists. (As an example, Paul
: McCartney's father was a musician and I
: think he was exposed to the big-band
: sounds way before rock and roll came
: about.) I was wondering, in your case,
: when did you first become aware of rock
: and roll? Which singer(s) or group(s)
: did it for you? How old were you when
: you started liking rock and roll music
: and singing along with it?
: Thanks,
: Laura

:I dicovered Rock & Roll when I was about 11 years old.
I heard Rock & Roll first on the radio listening to Alan Freed playing Fats Domino, Chuck Berry,Little Richard and of course the King Elvis. Doo Wop was also all over the radio then and it too moved me to sing and write.
I remember going to the movies and hearing Rock Around The Clock from the movie Blackboard Jungle and nearly jumping out of my seat to dance.
