Posted by Laura on March 31, 2005, 2:25 pm, in reply to "Re: Ron's Yoplait TV Commercial" The song was actually composed by Paul Vance and Lee Pockriss back in 1960 for Brian Hyland, who had the original hit with it. Coincidentally, Vance and Pockriss would later go on to work with Ron, as writers, producers and arrangers, first with Ron's group The Detergents in the mid-60's and again in 1969 with The Cuff Links (they wrote "Tracy" and "When Julie Comes Around" as well as most of the other songs Ron recorded as The Cuff Links, and "Leader of the Laundromat" and the other songs by The Detergents). That's a very good question you ask! Whenever I hear the song, I always think of the bikini being yellow with either white or black polka-dots. Probably there isn't any particular significance to the lyric except for the fact that the color "yellow" made the phrase the right number of syllables for the melody. (Of course, so would "purple," but "itsy bitsy teenie weenie purple polka-dot bikini" would be a little difficult to sing, and I can't picture a purple bikini anyway.) Laura

: Hi All: I have a debate going on in my
: circle of friends about the "Itsy
: Bitsy Teeny-you-know-the-rest"
: song...Was Ron's original vision when
: he wrote the song for the bikini to be
: yellow with polka dots (any color) or
: for the polka dots to be yellow with
: the bikini any color. Any insight
: would be helpful since you can read it
: both ways. Thanks much!
