Posted by Laura on September 24, 2005, 4:58 pm This week in 1969, The Archies' "Sugar, Sugar" reached #1 on New York City's powerhouse radio station, 77 WABC. To check out the survey from the week of September 23, 1969, click here: http://musicradio.computer.net/Surveys/1969/surveysep2369.html It's hard to believe it's been 36 years. Since its meteoric rise to the top spot on WABC and other radio stations across the country - plus a gold record and RIAA Record of the Year honors - "Sugar, Sugar" has never been absent from the airwaves nor from the consciousness of the world. It's been covered by various artists, played on TV shows and in movies, used for television and radio commercials, and appeared on countless compilation albums and CDs. Congratulations to Ron and to songwriters Jeff Barry and Andy Kim for a fantastic and enduring production. Laura P.S. I'd sure like to hear from others who lived within listening range of Musicradio WABC's 50,000-watt signal during the 60's. Those were wonderful days.
