I am researching my grandmother who trained as a nurse in the mid to late 1890's at Mill Road Infirmary. I have a photo of her with two scruffy children when she was a young nurse. She was born in Dublin of fairly well-off parents in 1872. She was very well educated choosing to become a nurse instead of marriage.
We also have a picture similar to the one you illustrate in your book - taken with a doctor in a ward. I have tried to obtain the book and wondered if you could advise me where I can get hold of a copy. It would be of particular interest to my mother of 90 since it is her mother I am referring to . My grandmother went on to nurse in the Boer Ward, started a Maternity Hospital in Australia and New Zealand before going on to the First World War and eventually getting married at 45 and having my mother at 47 back in 1919. An interesting life and I would like to investigate it. Your book would delight my mother.
I look forward to hearing from you.
