Briefly, Marmaduke Rawdon after a successful career as a Wine Merchant, raised a Regiment of foote for King Charles in 1643 during the English Civil War. The regiment defended Basing House in two sieges, before being transferred to Faringdon in Oxfordshire (now in Berkshire!) where they fought off further attacks from Roundhead forces. Rawdon himself died in early 1646 from an 'ague' (presumably a fever of some sort.Hope this helps.
