London is a great place to shop for costume pieces that can be put together to make a unique, professional quality costume. There's a wonderful Egyptian fellow on Bond Street that sells belts and bodice collars (worn like a small poncho) of elaborate sequin embroidery on net, finished with rows of fringe. Haven't seen anything like it here in the States, and bought my share. Also, don't overlook the beautiful sari sets that can be modified into a bellydance costume. Holiday saris often come with beautiful cholis to match; the saris themselves can be made into skirts with the front panel made from the decorative end.
