Ignoring the bite of the cold at her finger tips and screaming of the wind going past her ears, Sari had just got off work and was walking by the parliment buildings in Ottawa. Smoking from the particularly stressfull day at work she had had enough. I've been waiting too long she thought to herself. Looking up at the stone gargoyles.
She scoffed "People are silly," she said aloud with slight amusement not really caring who heard her." They think simple things like small charms and symbols protect them, even when they don't even believe."
It had only been a couple of months since she'd been thrown out because of her brother. The reason was only because they had assumed she had the same tendencies as he did. Sari would soon prove them right. She went back into thought. I just need to gain some sort of allegiance and bring his plans down. Looking down at her feet a group of pigeons had gathered to keep warm and she just happened to walk into them. Being somewhere where I would get noticed is the only way to do it. I need something bigger. Working at some restaurant just isn't the place to be, and I think I know just the place to go.... Bursting into a run, feet almost as if they didn't touch the ground, she knew exactly where to go. The pigeons scattered, only to rest again where they had been.
Two months ago she had been thrown down out of heaven because her brother had told some humans a few things that God just hadn't been to pleased with and cast him down and her along with him. It hurt her to know that she was to be punished along with her brother, when it was he that was at fault. If God thought my brother was trouble I wonder how he'll take it when I spread the news about him. Just then the cigarette she had been holding burnt her finger. Jumping at the sharp pain she tripped face first into the cold, wet snow.
"ugh.." Sari managed to mutter as she picked herself up.
"Excuse me," A little girl with dark hair and big brown eyes asked. "but do you know when the next bus goes by?"
Looking around Sari noticed she had tripped just before hitting the side walk and was at a bus stop.
"how would I know?" She meant it rhetorically so the little girl would not talk to her anymore.
"I just figured that since you were running so fast you were trying to make it here to catch a bus." The little girl replied.
"well I'm not." Thinking that the little girl would get the message if she spoke harshly.
But she didn't.
"My name is Anne, what's yours?"
"Sari." Sari had just finished brushing the snow off her coat and started to walk away, but Anne caught her before she managed to get going.
"Where are you from?" She asked.
A childs curiosity always seemed to get the better of them. This one especially didn't seem to get the Idea that Sari didn't want to talk.
"Er...here...in Ottawa" was the only thing that Sari could think of.
"Me too...umm I was wondering..."
Oh here we go. Was the only thing that was running through Sari's mind.
"What?" She asked growing impatient.
"I took the wrong bus to go to the store and now I'm way out here. Can you help me get home?"
Instantly Sari's mood changed.
"Sure, where do you live?"
"umm..out in Vanier" Anne responed slightly embarassed.
"You have to take the fourteen then. Don't worry, I'll take you." She always had a soft spot for helping people. Even when she didn't care or want to.
"Thanks." was all the little girl said.
The bus came and they got on. Sari's only thought during the bus ride was That phone call will have to wait until later...
