This is a very contentious subject.
Some say that there should not be any restriction on the supply side and the filter should be in the return line.
However IMO the oil flow rate in the twin is so low and the paper filter element surface area so great that the pressure differential across the filter element is miniscule. Additionally the so called Charlie filter has the advantage of supplying clean oil where you need it i.e. immediately before the pump and bearings whereas the return line filter supplies clean oil to the tank.
I am in the process of rebuilding a 1974 T120RV and have fitted a Charlie filter in the OIF spine.
