If the rubbers are perished and there is movement or slop in the prongs that work on the rubbers, it can wear away the inside surface of the prong assembly which by moving deeper into the clutch inner, increases the width of the part where the rollers are. This causes the outer basket to become floppy. ( hard to explain )
If so, you will need a new prong part and new shock rubbers. My supplier of parts assembled the new shock rubbers and new prong bit for me as it is not easy to do.
Sorry bout the terminology.
Thats what happened to mine. I think the rubbers were 25 years old !!! came out like powder.
Also you need to wreck the bolts that holds the inner together to get them out as they are peened over where they come through the outer plate to ensure they don't come undone.
Fettling is such fun
