My '69 TR6 runs fine with a Unifilter oiled foam element, if anything a touch leaner than a paper element.
Filtration is probably much better, particularly given the quality of some aftermarket parts I would not bet that the paper elements are made of the best materials.
Unifilter quotes a micron rating small enough that anything that gets through will not cause wear.
