As far as I am aware, the 'B' dot on the inlet cam aligns with the long dash on the intermediate wheel for 650/750 Bonneville/Tiger/Trophy twins up until engine number CX (March '78) 06001, according to the factory information. Dot to dot (or dot to short dash?) was for the 6T Thunderbird.
A Service Bulletin from January 1973 gives the timing wheel information in detail, and was probably around that time that the 'A' and 'B' cam wheel markings were introduced to make identification of the timing marks easier?
From CX06001, the Bonneville inlet/intermediate wheel was simply dash to dash, and exhaust was dot to dot.
