I guess that we are probably talking about the difference between concept and detailed design.
However I am not sure when the AV model was "introduced"---I thought that it was very late 1970s or even early 1980s in which case I thought that Bernard H was out of the picture by then.
Not sure how much in advance of "introduction" the detailed design might have been done.
Interesting little microcosm of a model from concept to reality isn't it?
