I have the Feb 1982 copy of Which BIke in front of me, included in which is an in depth article on the AV system and the TSS. Meriden attributes Bernard Hooper with the original design and it details exactly how the system works. Apparently the original Nylon bushes were prone to wear and replaced with sintered bronze bushes which required greasing. The swinging arm understandably had to pivot on plates bolted to the rear of the gearbox in order to maintain chain tension. Brian Jones ia attributed to the "fine Tuning" of the whole affair.
