Sorry mate,spring goes facing clutch,if you think about it your trying to keep the oil in the clutch case and thats the way an oil or grease seal works,I think.
Just a thought,you said you have replaced primary drive with a belt,so you dont need oil in there do you?all you have in there now is oil mist,leave it and wait and see.
