As you probably know, the 1970-on models have no oil drive side oil seal, because the breather arrangement was changed from '70-on, as those models breathe into the primary chaincase and vent at the rear of it behind the clutch, oil mist from the crankcase will still find its way into the primary chaincase through the open D/S bearing and start to refill it with oil, so you'd really be wasting your time draining it unless you were to convert it to a 'dry' chaincase by fitting a D/S seal but then you will also need to add a breather to the crankcase.
