Brian is probably right, coils are not what they used to be.
Rather than replace the pair why not buy a twin lead jap coil off Ebay for almost no money and get a much better spark and infinitely better reliability ?
Electronics do not like heat and failed electronic components can sometimes be diagnosed by refrigerating with an aerosol available for that purpose.
If a new jap coil does not cure the problem duct a refrigerant to the Boyer box via a length of tube temporaralily taped in place for the purpose, if the bike comes good the Boyer is at fault.
If so bin the lot and install a Trispark, a much better ignition.
