Time to get the spanners out then! I could be a selector problem? Something like a broken plunger spring? Or maybe a gear bush problem? If you have a Haynes unit twin manual, then I strongly suggest you put it away in a dark corner somewhere until you've finished working on the gearbox, as the information it gives is wrong for the five-speed boxes.
