Having any sort of weight, ie..extra keys and other dangly things can destroy the internals of the ignition switch and the cut of the key with the constant movement when vehicle is in motion. I have seen cars unable to be started because of ignition switch rendered useless from all sorts of unnecessary items weighing the equivilent of a house brick swinging back and forth with vehicle motion. Less weight on the key ring saves a whole lot of expence of a new barrel and keys, plus the vehicle always decides to render itself imobilized far from home. (Murphys law i suppose)
