Hi, just wondering when you say compression is excellent have you tested it and what readings did you get. I sent ages thinking I'd a fuel/spark problem when in fact I'd too little compression. Even with low compression it will still be hard to turn the engine over.
Check every part of the fuel system for an air leak, carb tops, air filters, rubbers. If you're kicking it over with the choke on there should be plenty of fuel evident in the cylinder. Stick with it. Best of luck.
