The original Girling oil dampers are usually fitted the normal way up with the spring adjuster at the bottom, however during 1978 production Girling "Gas" shocks were introduced, which must be fitted "upside-down".

Then I can only suggest you contact Wilemans and ask them if they can be fitted upside down or not?
