Hi Tiger, thanks for the good advice. I can see that a loose rotor problem could cause expensive problems. I don't have any unusual noise in the chaincase area though and a loose core would be pretty audible I would have thought? I'm pretty much convinced it's a beam focus thing: my theory being that the light from the periphery of the lens is getting to the mark out of synch with the centre and in excess of the focal length, therefore catching the mark early (right) and late (left) and giving me the faint evenly spaced lines on each side. I will definitely check though.
