NOT mineral oil, Tiger, that's the green stuff used in Citroens (LHM) and it'll really make a mess of the seals. Standard brake fluid; DOT 3 or 4 is usually refered to as Vegetable based brake fluid but in practice is manufactured from a glycol base a bit like antifreeze, not that you need that in a Bonnie
If your really stuck in the desert with no brakes, use cooking oil but NOT engine oil to get you home.
If you're stuck at the side of the road I'd choose to walk.
