I think what they mean when they 1 1/2 turns they mean 1 turn = 180 degrees not 360.....
My bike would do the same with the pilot screwed out by 540 degrees!
At present with the pilot on the single carb on my Tiger, it's screwed out approx 270(ish) degrees I think (either that or maybe 430 - I aint altered it since I set it as it runs great like this.
Experiment.
