Retro side panels with panake air filters.

Hi,has anybody changed the stock air filter and side panel arrangement to retro panels and pancake air filters.My issue is if you takeaway the alloy air filter housing how do you secure the metal sidepanels which in my case house the ignition amplifier and postronic regulator.Also the crankcase breather tower.Is it a worthwhile conversion?
