I trying to think back to how mine was but can't remember, although I have a feeling that the thicker ring, i.e. the spacer was the first to go into the housing. That's how it looks on the parts drawing as well. The numbers are 71-7245 inner spacer, 71-7244 retainer ring outer, so these descriptions fit in with the idea of the thicker spacer being the first to go in. Logically speaking the spacers must presumably be there to centre the sprag bearing on the surface it runs on when the pinion is fitted? I suggest you look at it from that point of view and do some trial and error offering up/measuring. Or maybe someone else can help?
