...well I couldn't wait till the weekend.
Took a deep breath, checked the compression with the throttle wide open - no compression.
Took both rocker covers off and checked the outlet rockers - there was no play at all! I set the rockers gaps after I had replaced the gasket so how has it moved?
Reset the outlet rocker gaps, checked compression - 150 psi on both cylinders.
Reassembled it, kicked it over, started, took it for a short run, rechecked the compression - 150 psi. Maybe it will improve after a bit of use.
Now for the test. Kicked it and it started! - without the choke.
Panic over (for the moment anyway)
