A little bit of smoke on startup isn't normally a big issue , probably just valve guides a bit worn?
The blueing of one pipe could just be that that pipe is bit thinner than the other but as you are running twin carbs and points that could be either weakness or more/less advance.Assuming the carbs are jetted the same this might be a float level issue or a slight air leak on one side.
With points you really need to check the timing on both cylinders to ensure they are timed equally. Hey - what else are weekends for?
