running hot

hi my t140 just rebuilt with a spitefire ex cam set valve timing as advised by several poeple. got standard carbs good idle have not set timing with strobe light just static at moment have no timing light . running new meg exhausts no air filters or choke .two miles of riding and engine extremly hot and plugs are light grey what could be the cause or the lean/hot engine?
