I was just thinking the same thing.... a quick test would be to get a jumper cable from the boot of your car and clip one end to your battery earth terminal (normal earth cable still connected) and the other end to the engine.
If everything suddenly works then you need to sort the earth circuit, but if it doesn't then I'm afraid it's back to the loose connection/semi-broken wire elimination testing,.
Look at the connections blocks within the headlight shell. They often get pulled apart slightly getting crammed in there.
