Hi, if you're still worried about the mixture do as Brian suggested and go for a smaller cutaway. In my case I went the other way, from a 3 to a 3.5, which, along with pilot jetting changes, has transformed the way the it pulls from low revs off a roundabout, much cleaner now. It's also giving me around 4.6 l/100km, so much better fuel economy and a good mixture. I'd certainly run air filters though. You say it's running hot. What do you base that on? Is there any sign of white blistering/deposits on the centre electrode? You could perhaps try a different grade of plug? No idea what the noise could be from the description.
