It is possible there was oil coming from the exhaust flange. Incidentally, that has been puzzling me. The exhaust tubes are a rather slack fit in the cylinder head and the finned clamps seem to serve no purpose other than fitting around the tubes. Nothing holds the exhaust tubes into the head apart from the the bracket fitted to the engine. I put some exhaust sealant around the tubes before I inserted them into the head but I am surprised they are so slack to start with?
