That's a reading I would expect to get from a typical 12V coil. A 6V coil should show a reading of around 2.0 Ohms.

Either something is wrong with the coil or you are not reading your meter correctly? What you should be getting is a kilo(1,000)Ohm reading?
A reading of 4.65kOhms (4,650 Ohms) sounds about right so I'm guessing that you are using a digital meter and what you are reading is 4.65 kOhms?

<I believe the coils are 6 volt?>
Are they Lucas? If so, check the markings on the base of both coils, 12V will be marked 17M12 and 6V is 17M6.
