Broken rings, seized piston, scored barrels, seized main shells, seized main bearings....
An engine doesn't have to be running to seize - in fact sometimes momentum is enough to keep it turning.
And a damaged engine can quite often turn over when hot but seize up when cold.
It's a possible cause of the problem Mark, that's all, so hopefully it'll turn out to be something else.
