Posted by Steve But overall, I really enjoyed the film. Where Spike Lee decided he wouldn't have used ANY of the original cast, at least Chris Columbus decided to use most of them. And, being the type of director he is, you can understand his Hollywood mindset and going with a "movie" person for Mimi. (That don't make it right though, Chris.) Idina rocked! And Tracie Thoms has a killer voice. The scene for "I'll Cover You" lent itself very nicely to film adaptation. But still man, I missed seeing Daphne up there.

Saw RENT last nite, and while I'm not trying to dis Rosario; she is, after all, a downtown kid; her Mimi can't compare with Daphne's. For me, she doesn't have the edge that Daphne had and her voice doesn't have the punch. Daphne was able to access and pour out more of her soul. Yeah, Daphne, for me, was more passionate in her portrayal.
