Hi
I have a female RES, approx. 1 year old. She is about 7" long (shell) and seems very healthy. Eats great, basks regularly, chases down feeder fish and explores her tank, etc.
I keep the water in her tank at 78 degrees F. I recently read that the basking area should be approx. 10 degrees warmer than the water, or around 88 degrees F.
So I bought another thermometer and stuck to the glass on the tank to measure the air temperature near the basking area. It only measures at 82 degrees F.
Is that enough? Is that an accurate way to measure this area's temp? I have a focused heating/UV lamp above her basking platform. Should I get something else to heat this up more? I guess I am being careful because I don't want to cook her, either!
Thanks!
Christine
