Posted by R.E. Donlen My Dad has shared some interesting stories about how Johnny Bill came to be in that unfortunate location. I was told JB was killed on New Years day at the Battle of the Bulge. In November he was actually in another area where he was wounded by shrapnel in early December. He was separated from his troop and sent to some elsewhere for medical recovery...a couple of weeks later this area turned into one of the battle points and Johnny Bill, along with the rest of the walking wounded, were called into the fight where he was killed. Had he not been injured, he wouldn't have been there. Don't know how accurate this all is but I do have a couple of his Purple Hearts, a few little star medals, and some newspaper clippings detailing the injuries sustained that my Dad passed on to me. Thanks for noting him on your site. I'll submit a photo of him in uniform.

I see you have my Uncle Johnny Bill listed on your website. He was 21 years old on New Years Day when he was killed in action.
