Perhaps this tiara was a personal gift to Prince Richard's grandmother (born Princess Madeleine zu Löwenstein, etc.) Her husband died in 1925, so Prince Richard's father was Hereditary Prince from 1925 until he was officially declared dead in 1969 (missing in action in Russia since 1944). Prince Richard became Hereditary Prince in 1969 and his grandmother died in 1976.
