Queen Alexandra, for example, was known to have worn tons of imitation pearls among the ropes of natural ones. And she was very royal. Princess Diana was another one. Well, the pearls are awfully large and almost too good looking. I don't think it's that strict today whether some important person wears fake or real jewellery.
